Projects / I Vote Because

Pro-democracy movement to encourage Canadians to share why voting matters, why every voice counts.

April 2011

The first version of I Vote Because was a custom Ushahidi deployment created for the Canadian 2011 election to allow Canadians to complete the sentence; I vote because. It's goal was to spark a pro-democracy movement to encourage Canadians why voting matters.

I rebuilt the site for the Canadian 2015 election, this time in Ruby on Rails adding additional functionality like generating a shareable image of each submission, which was automatically posted on Twitter and Facebook.

Some of the submissions were truly inspiring, and I'm proud to have sparked the conversation why voting is so important for Canadians.
